Cumbria Business Environment Network


The Green at Heart scheme has been developed in order to allow businesses to demonstrate the steps they have taken to improve their environmental awareness and performance as well as provide a platform for which businesses can improve upon.

The scheme is based on a checklist of scoring criteria that businesses can work to achieve throughout the year and strive for bronze, silver or gold standard.

Through participating in the scheme businesses will receive recognition for steps they have already taken towards becoming a Greener businesses as well as gaining access to valuable guidance and ideas for how they can improve further.

Green at Heart is designed to be applicable for all types and sizes of business seeking Green recognition and certification, from small Bed and Breakfasts to large industry and with CBEN being recognised across the county is a valuable tool for demonstrating environmental awareness and performance to customers.

The scheme comprises of a compulsary section that is requierd for entry onto the scheme and addtitional optional sections, of which a certain percentage have to be completed, so the scheme can be tailored to what best suits the business and your areas of interest.
 
All businesses must:
  • Have an Environmental Policy.
  • Identify their environmental aspects and impacts.
  • Establish and work towards environmental objectives.
  • Increase staff awareness.
In addition to these qualifying criteria businesses will be assessed on their environmental approach to the following measures:
  • Energy
  • Water
  • Waste
  • Communication
  • Travel
  • Purchasing
