Meet the Environment Team

The Environment Team work on the CBEN Awards programme - implementing Environmental Management Systems in Businesses - and also deliver the ENWORKS Resource Efficiency Project in Cumbria. The Team is headed by Michael Hamer - the Environmental Projects Manager.

Our Environmental Auditors have a wealth of skills and knowledge from working with businesses over many years. All of the Auditors have good environmental degrees (some second degrees), and all are members of the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment.  They have worked on practical environmental projects and in environmental regulation, as well as advising several hundred businesses of all shapes and sizes on environmental matters which will help them in their day to day operations.  

 

Michael Hamer    Project Manager Environment Project

Michael has worked in a variety of roles: Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement position in Cardiology. Communications Engineering, and a national project to implement a computerised work allocation system in an engineering workforce of 20,000.  Latterly Michael worked at Killhope, a remote mining museum in the North Pennines. He joined CREA in 2007 as Environmental Project Manager.
He has an HND in Engineering and a BSc(Hons) degree in Natural Science.
 


 

Dave Harris-Jones  BSc (Hons), AIEMA — Senior Environmental Auditor

Dave is a qualified environmental professional with a BSc in Environmental Sciences and an Associate Member of IEMA.  With over 20 years of experience working in Cumbria, he combines practical skills gained from business management with a broad environmental knowledge, along with a passion for environmental issues.
Dave has been instrumental in the development of numerous Environmental Management Systems and is experienced in carrying our Resource efficiency audits, identifying efficiency savings and providing business support and solutions to help implement project. Other specialisms include compressed air leak detection surveys & Carbon Trust loan applications. Dave is a registered environmental trainer & has completed a two week NEBOSH Health & Safety course.  

 
Laura Armstead BSc (Hons), MSc, AIEMA — Environmental Auditor

Laura holds an MSc in Resource and Environmental Management and a BSc (Hons) in Geography. Laura is an associate member of IEMA (AIEMA), affiliate member of CIWM, and a qualified environmental and Environmental Management Systems auditor. Laura specialises in
Corporate and Social Responsibility and Carbon Footprinting, along with a general background in environmental business support in the areas of utilities, distribution and process efficiency. Laura has 2 years' industrial experience, predominantly in the manufacturing, tourism and service
sectors. Laura is also skilled in compressed air leak detection and thermal imaging surveys.
 
Rebecca Dunn BSc, MSc, AIEMA — Environmental Auditor

Rebecca is a qualified environmental professional, having obtained both a BSc in Geography and Environmental Management and an MSc in Environmental Management, and is an Associate Member of IEMA. Rebecca has over 5 years' professional environmental experience working for both CREA and the Environment Agency. She has experience in resource efficiency audits and supporting the implementation of Environmental Management Systems in businesses across Cumbria. Rebecca also specialises in waste management and minimisation, water quality, and pollution prevention. In addition Rebecca has commercial procurement experience within the automotive and FMGC manufacturing sectors. Rebecca is also a professional trainer.
 
 Philip Wanless BSc (Hons), MSc — Environmental Auditor

Philip holds a BSc in Geology & Environmental Science and an MSc in Environmental Impact Assessment, Auditing and Management. Philip has vast experience in construction engineering in the UK and overseas, with considerable experience in project management, delivery and finance. Philip’s environmental specialisms include Energy Management, Renewable Energy Technology and corporate training. Philip has carried out numerous resource efficiency audits and recently prepared a transport audit for a large national company that identified over £4.5 million worth of potential savings.









 


Our support team similarly have a wealth of knowledge from advanced IT applications, to accountancy and website design.
